History
Martin Luther did well in school, and his father wanted him to become a lawyer. So Luther enrolled in law school. One day, there was a lightning bolt that struck very near to him. Martin Luther prayed to St. Anne to spare his life, and in return said he would become a monk. Luther's life was spared and he did indeed become a monk, dropping all desires to be a lawyer. Luther was a very dedicated monk, but still struggled to find peace with God. Martin Luther's superior, Johann von Staupitz ordered him to get an academic career, so in 1507 he became an ordained priest. By 1512 he had gotten a degree of Doctor of Theology. Luther began to study the scriptures in great depth, and realized that it is by faith alone that we are saved. This is what sparked his 95 theses statements to the catholic church and also what sparked the protestant reformation.
